Fireplace & Firebox Repair in Fayetteville
The firebox takes the direct heat. Cracked firebrick and crumbling joints are normal wear — burning past them isn't.
Firebox repair replaces cracked firebrick and repacks the refractory mortar joints that direct heat away from your home's framing. Small cracks are a $200–$500 fix; a rusted-through prefab panel means replacement panels, and a fully crumbling masonry firebox gets a rebuild.
Masonry fireboxes
Firebrick and refractory mortar are consumables — they're engineered to take 1,000°F+ and eventually fail so the structure behind them doesn't. Repairs use true refractory materials, not the regular mortar or 'high-heat caulk' shortcuts that fail by February.
Prefab (factory-built) fireplaces
Much of Fayetteville's newer housing stock runs prefab units. The metal firebox panels crack and rust — especially with an uncapped flue letting rain in for years. Panels are replaceable if the model's still supported; if not, we'll tell you straight what the options are rather than patching what can't be patched.
When to stop using the fireplace
- Cracks in firebrick wider than a nickel's edge, or any loose/missing brick
- Mortar joints you can rake out with a key
- Prefab panels with widening cracks or rust-through
- Any sign of smoke staining outside the firebox opening
Cold-season tip: book firebox work in late summer. It's the one repair that can't happen while you're actively burning.
